Non Newtonian Fluid Mechanics with PolyFlow -A- (NNFA)

Objective:
Numerical simulation of hydrodynamics when fluids are non newtonian ones with an industrial software: PolyFlow (FLUENT product).
Numerous industrial fluids are non newtonian. One can encountered them in domains as different as petroleum industry (production and derivatives: polymers), food industry, textile... Hydrodynamics can be strongly affected by non newtonian characteristics, especially by elasticity and PolyFlow is actually the best tool for these simulations.
It proposes different rheological laws to model non newtonian fluids and then allows numerical simulation of hydrodynamics (or more..) for these specific flows.
The objective of this task is to run different examples proposed with PolyFlow:
Tutorial 1 : Contraction flow of a viscoelastic liquid
Turorial 2 : Residence time distribution
FlPost will be used as graphic post-processor.
Duration and Staff: 4 weeks + defence. For 1 couple of students.
Schedule:
  • NNFA.1: To understand the main concepts of PolyFlow
  • NNFA2: To test the working of PolyFlow with tutorial 1
  • NNFA.3: To test the working of PolyFlow with tutorial 2
  • NNFA.4: To explore influence of the different rheological parameters.
  • Final material expected: A quick reference guide to run PolyFlow, which emphasizes the main capacities of this software.
