Establishment of a model for the water bombing from an aircraft


While flying, the plane leaves behind it and next to it, some vortices of different sizes :

Wing tip vortices (next to the plane)

Wing tip vortices (next to the plane)

Vortices behind the plane (as for a boat)

We did not have time to study that part in details. Yet, we learnt that some droplets will be captured by the wake whereas other, bigger, won't. Thus, it would be interesting to know :

  • the characteristical length of an average wing tip vortex
  • the vortex expected lifetime
  • the average radius of a captured droplet...

 

The final step of the project is to evaluate the mark on the ground.
