The aim of this hands-on is the study of Rayleigh-Benard instabilities
between two plates (the description of the problem will be done more precisely
later) using a simulating tool such as Fluent.
We
will start with a general presentation of the physical problem, then we
will present the models used with Fluent to simulate this phenomenon. Moreover,
we will test the influence of the mesh on the results (comparing the critical
Rayleigh numbers obtained with different kinds of mesh, as well as the
visualisations of the flow) and also the influence of the numerical schemes,
considering first and second order schemes and comparing SIMPLE and SIMPLEC
schemes. At last, we will see few trials about the multigrid method.
